Another Round of Flooding Primarily in Bloomingdale

Our neighbors in Bloomingdale, especially around Rhode Island and First St NW were once again battered by flooding and backed sewage systems. Basements were flooded and boat rescues actually took place along the 100 block of Rhode Island NW.

The Mayor has designated a Task Force to look at why the sewage drains continue to back up and flood the neighborhood. Much of the pressure came from neighbors becoming organized and much media coverage.

The Truxton Circle/East Shaw Area south of Florida Avenue and First St NW is also feeling some of the impact of backing sewage. Neighbors have noticed the bad odors coming from our street drains and man holes. Also, some basements at the unit block of Bates St NW were also flooded.

If you have specific damages due to flooding, we want to hear from you. Commissioner Bradley Thomas and the Bates Area Civic Association can ensure that our neighborhood is also included in the Mayor’s Task Force to address the sewage and flooding issues. If we fail to be represented, as the saying goes, it flows downstream.

  1. Proactive says:

The unit block of P Street was heavily damaged by floods several years ago, it’s great that they were able to resolve the sewer problem and prevent flood damage during the recent flood.
