Our Neighborhood to Host 2 Major Events in August – Save the Dates

Tuesday, August 2nd

National Night Out and Bates St. Historic Dedication

National Night Out has proven to be an effective, inexpensive, and enjoyable program to promote neighborhood spirit and police-community partnerships in our fight for a safer nation.

The Bate and Hanover Civic Associations, in partnership with 5th District Metropolitan Police and Council Member Harry Thomas will host the Ward 5 and 5th District National Night Out Kick Off Event. This program will be the biggest block party in the City covering 3 city blocks of activities.

5:30 PM Historic Dedication of 222 Bates St NW as the Center of the City’s Population according to the 2010 Census. The 100 and 200 Block of Bates will be closed from 3:30pm – 6pm for the dedication. We need volunteer to help decorate these blocks for the ceremony.

6:00 PM National Night Out Kicks off at the grounds of CAPCS Charter School at First and P St. NW. The event will include, games, entertainment, food, music and community activities. Metropolitan Police Officers and their equipment and heavy artillery will be in display. Come out, meet and thank our men and women of MPD. All Ward 5 and 5th District communities, so expect there to be Wacky Olympics for neighborhoods and civic associations to compete in. The New York Avenue Playground and basketball court will be opened and filled with activities.

Neighbors, this is an opportunity to show the rest of the City how National Night Out should be done. Originally, we were to host the Citywide Kick Off, but the Mayor changed it to Ward 7 just last week. Let’s show him that he made the wrong choice. Our neighborhood and Ward 5 are SIMPLY THE BEST!

We need volunteers for this event, please email me at gbonilla@hospicemanagent.com for volunteer opportunities.
