Want to clean up that tree box in front of your house? Or show off the hard work you’ve put into your yard? Interested in trying your hand at urban gardening?
We’re happy to announce that plans have been set for BACA’s Flower Power 2009–a neighborhood beautification effort which will culminate with a garden walk followed by a reception on June 13.
In the coming weeks we will be sending around more information, including dates/locations for free compost and mulch (courtesy of DPW), tips on planting and gardening, and special discounts on products. Watch for flyers next week, and help get the word out on your block!
For those who want to amend their soil, or are planning to do some container gardening, DPW will be dropping compost in our neighborhood at the end of the month. DPW’s compost is actually from 2007’s fall leaves– makes a nice, rich soil additive and it’s free! We’ll get mulch (probably a shredded bark of some sort) from DPW in mid-May, for use in your tree boxes and yards– helps the plants retain moisture and keep weeds out. We’ll have tools (including wheelbarrows) available as well.
Stay tuned for updates, and start thinking about what you want to do this spring!
Derek, thanks so much for your work on this. This event will be awesome. I can’t wait for free compost!
