To the community’s disappointment, a green roof was not included in the final plans for Shaw’s new library due to costs. But the DC Public Library has now filed an application for funding from the DC Department of the Environment that would allow a vegetated green roof to be a feature of the new Watha T. Daniel/Shaw Neighborhood Library at 7th Street and Rhode Island Avenue, NW.
Come to a meeting of the Friends of Watha T. Daniel/Shaw Neighborhood Library on Tuesday, May 5, 2009, at 6:30 PM at the interim library, located at 945 Rhode Island Avenue, NW, to:
* Learn more about green roofs and how they benefit the environment and reduce building operating costs.
* Find out what you can do to help ensure funding is made available for the green roof.
* Hear the latest on the construction schedule for the construction of the new library.
* See the latest renderings of the building.
* Hear about plans for an additional design meeting to discuss finishes and other aspects of the building, including paint and carpeting colors, treatment of the sunscreen, etc.
