No real estate developer has scored bigger in the budget back-and-forth to date than Roadside Development LLC, the city’s partner in redevelopment plans for the O Street Market in Shaw. Evans secured $1 million from parking meter increases for the project and another $1.5 million from the economic development committee’s budget, money the mayor had intended for another Shaw developer, Howard Theatre Restoration, the nonprofit with plans to rebuild the historic Howard Theatre.
So please do tell, when will the project start? The new marketplace in the middle of Shaw will do wonders for our community. The Kelsey Gardens boarded up and waiting like it is is a real hazard. I hope the Howard Theater gets funded as well, but Shaw is in desperate need of the O Street Market project to be completed.
It would be great to have the developer come to one of the BACA meetings to give us an update.
