The Friends of J.O. Wilson Elementary School (JOWES), a volunteer organization, sought to transform the schoolyard into a safe and educational environment for the students as well as a welcoming gathering place for the community. Recognizing the challenge of undertaking such a large revitalization project, the Friends of JOWES reached out to ULI Washington to help them initiate the process through a Technical Assistance Panel (TAP). The TAP provided detailed recommendations in the areas of planning, design, and implementation, including identifying potential sources of funding.
