Finally, after a couple of years of vacantness, work has begun on the store at 3rd and P St NW. These photos show the inside and there are some not easily visible workers in there surrounded by the dust from the jackhammering. I talked to the contractors this morning and they said the work would take about 5 months. According to them there will be a wine shop on the street level. My information directly from the owner is that there will be a Georgian Social/Cultural Club on the top level. Do a search on this blog for Bates Market for more details. I will try to get the owner to come speak at the next BACA meeting. From what I know about it thus far, it seems it will be a nice addition to our neighborhood and the owner seems sensitive to the neighbors’ concerns. Yahoo!
