DDOT is having a series of Open Houses to discuss transit issues, including the proposed new streetcar system. The Open House for Ward 5 is Tuesday, November 3rd at Luke Moore Academy, 1001 Monroe Street, NE.
Details of the current 3 Phase plan for the streetcars are on the DDOT website. Of particular relevance to our neighborhood is the Florida Ave/U St/Calvert St line proposed in Phase 2, that would pass right through the Florida Ave/North Capital intersection. It is amazing how easily accessible, street-level public transport can help bring new business and development to inner city areas. This will definitely affect our neighborhood, especially the area of North Capital south of Florida, and we should get involved.
