Zone parking?

See this email from a resident near 1st and P St NW who wants zone parking on P St.

Hello, my name is Tracey…Back in Feb of this year, I had my neighbors to sign the petition for zone parking on our block, and we have not seen nor heard anything else about the matter, while out of state residents park here EVERDAY for FREE, that work in either the schools on the block or the government buildings on N. Capital St. My question at this point is , what more can we do to get this zone parking on our street? We have done our part by having the petition signed, so when will we see results? Great day!

  1. On 8/12/09 – Angie Jones sent Jim Berry, Anita Bonds and myself the following email:

    Hello to All,

As I stated in a pervious e-mail that some of you may not have received it that a 70/10 study was made to see if your block met the criteria for the installation for Residential Permit Parking. I am glad to inform you that it has passed however, we implement the parking on a quarterly bases and the next quarter for submission will be September 2009 that is when we will be sending every thing forward.

As expected, our application for zone parking for the unit block of P ST NW was approved. However, DDOT would not processed until September of 2009. I have followed up with Angie Jones to see if she has an estimate as to when we can expect the zone parking to take place.

  2. Don’t count on it helping matters any – we’ve had Residential zoned parking on the 200 block of N Street NW for a few years now – and it doesn’t really help matters since they are NOT enforced. Unless parking enforcement does their job on a regular basis – you won’t see any real difference.

    1. Rob, that is so true. I live at the corner of First and P and I call the city to report parking violations daily. It is the same cars every time. Now I contact the parking enforcement supervisor directly. His contact info is: Mr Polk 202-576-7580. Maybe if we all call it will change things.

  3. The petition for Zone Parking has made the rounds on the 1500 block of 3rd st. (I believe S. and Ms W did the work.) I think enough signatures are in. 1500 is back at square one. Glad to here the future is so, um, bright?

  4. RobA is correct, enforcement is key and we have to drive it. We need to call 311 with tag numbers and periods of times they have been parked. So there is hope if stay on them.

  5. A Hansen Service Request can all be filled online at DC.gov. You can submit requests for parking violations and abandoned vehicles. Their is some example text available for parking too close to intersections or past the two hour limit. The is room for plate numbers and detailed address information. Oddly enough, there is also room for a VIN. I would never get that close to someone’s car, ok maybe not yet.

  6. The only problem with filling out the Service Request is that it goes into the queue and is only acted upon AFTER the fact. I have opened up many a service request for parking enforcement/violations and it has never addressed the same day … the updates have always been for a day or two later and at that time, the illegally parked car has moved on. Opening issues at 5:00 or later (we have zoned parking till 8:30 pm)provides no relief on that day/evening.
