This was on the Ledroit Park list serv. This park is only a few blocks from the BACA area.
I wanted to report back to the list and to the larger community on an outcome of Tuesday’s Civic Association meeting.
Thanks to the efforts of many residents in the LeDroit Park and Bloomingdale area who kept the pressure on city officials and on the diligent work of our ANC Commissioners (Moss and Salatti), we have good news to report.
CM Jim Graham has worked with Deputy Mayor Santos to resolve the budget gap created by an across the board budget cut affecting DC government. Jose Sousa in the Mayor’s office reported that the budget gap ($200,000) in our park project has been closed and that the park will be built on a budget of $1.7M as previously expected.
The support of CM Graham, CM Thomas and the agreement with DM Santos has been crucial. But they’ll continue to need our help to ensure support in Council for the completion of the park as envisioned given the difficult budget situation.
So to summarize,
· The budget gap will be closed and the project bid at the original funding level.
· Design elements previously discussed as being cut have been restored.
· Project is on track and moving into next steps.
o Construction permits to be obtained in May 2010, park to open in September 2010
