Mayor Fenty Announces Release of the 2010 DC Spring and Summer Fun Guide

This morning Mayor Adrian M. Fenty announced the release of the 2010 DC Spring and Summer Fun Program Guide and kicked off DPR Summer camp registration. He was joined by the DC Department of Parks and Recreation (DPR) Interim Director Jesus Aguirre, and children from Winston Elementary at nearby Hillcrest Recreation Center.

Mayor Fenty said, “Summer is an exciting season of the year and the District of Columbia is committed to partnering our respective agencies to ensure that residents have a wide assortment of safe and productive programming.”

This year’s guide offers a variety of exciting spring and summer activities for District youth and their families to enjoy. DPR has joined DC Public Schools, Department of Health, Department of Mental Health, Metropolitan Police Department, Fire and Emergency Medical Services Department, DC Public Library, Office of the State Superintendent of Education, DC Children Youth Investment Trust Corporation, and the Department of Employment Services to provide District youth and their families a wealth of programs and activities for 2010.

Included in the 2010 DC Spring and Summer Fun Guide is information about programs and services such as summer camps, free summer meals, reading clubs, creative writing, crafts, sports and recreation, community service learning, health services, job readiness, teen programs, college preparation, and much, much more! Registration for DPR’s 2010 Summer Camps opened Tuesday, February 16, 2010 at 12:00pm for District of Columbia residents. Non-Residents are able to register beginning Wednesday, February, 24, 2010 at 12:00. Complete information regarding registration forms, registration fairs, camp locations, fees and camp descriptions can be found online at summercamps.dc.gov or in-person at DPR facilities.

Camping fees are $100 per session for District residents for most camps and $175 for non-residents. All camping fees must be paid at the time of registration; acceptable forms of payment are Visa, MasterCard, and Discover, certified check or money orders made payable to DC Treasurer. Personal checks or cash are not accepted.

DPR offers a scholarship rate for District residents to ensure that summer camps are available to everyone, regardless of their ability to pay; eligible families pay $25 per child, per camp session.
