Neighborhood Safety Walks
Police Community Advisory Council
National Night Out Against Crime Rally
Neighborhood Block Captains Program
Neighborhood Block Captain Program is a new initiative that has proven to improve safety and reduce crime in areas such as Chevy Chase, D.C. This program in a well organized method that requires community involvement and a captain for each participating block. Block Captains are the key to the success of this program. This program includes a formal training and coordination with other community members.
The Block Captain compiles and maintains a contact list for each neighbor in a specific block that wish to participate in the programs. Neighbors that participate in the program are contacted by phone should there be any usual circumstances in the neighborhood, a neighbor’s property is being burglarized or vandalized or should a crime be in progress. Neighbors may inform each other of other emergencies such as fires, gas leaks or other hazardous conditions in the neighborhood.
