At this week’s ANC 5C Committee of the Whole meeting, please note an agenda item of considerable neighborhood interest: Representatives of the Big Bear Cafe will appear to discuss the Bear’s application for an alcohol license. The ANC will be voting about the Bear`s request for a temporary license that will allow the cafe to serve alcohol while the Alcohol Beverage Regulation Administration reviews its application for a permanent license. Being able to serve wine and beer and the occasional special event cocktail is part of the Bear`s effort to expand its services in the community. If the temporary license is approved, the Bear will begin to be open in the evenings and, by upgrading the kitchen, serve light dinner fare, something not currently available right here in Bloomingdale.

The Committee of the Whole meeting will be held in Bloomingdale at St. George`s Episcopal Church at 2nd & U St NW. Several commissioners have raised issues and concerns about the Bear`s effort, if neighbors have strong feelings about this issue, and especially if they support the Bear and what it has come to mean to the community, please come to the meeting and make your voices heard.
