Robbery with Force and Violence at the 1400 Block of First ST NW
Crime/Safety Advisory
Dear Neighbors,
Sunday at around 10 pm. I was walking a neighbor home when we ran into a robbery in progress. A young couple was being robbed by a gang of young adults (approximately 18 years old). This is the alert DC MPD sent out
Police Alert-Robbery (Snatch)
Robbery (Snatch) 2203 hours First & O Street NW, LOF: (4) males 14-18 yoa, nothing further L/S #I20100284301
A police unit responded within 2 minutes of the robbery taking place. Despite the incredible response time from MDP, the assailants got away. Though I was a witness and so was my neighbor, we were not able to get a good look at the assailants due to the poor lighting in that area.
There have been several assaults (with violence and dangerous weapon), robberies and home burglaries in the area over the past few weeks. Some of the incidents have taken place on First ST NW, O ST NW, P ST NW and Third Street. As summer weather continues, we may expect an increase in crime unless all of us do something to assist our police department in fighting it. Keep in mind, our men and women in uniform can not be every where at all times.
Here are several things you can do to prevent crime or being a victim:
1. Join the Neighborhood Watch Program
2. Avoid walking alone late at night
3. Avoid dark alleys and streets
4. Keep your front lights on. Keeping your block well lit prevents crime.
5. Keep your back yard lights on, especially facing an alley
6. Do not keep your home keys and your ID in your purse or together. If stolen, you don’t want the thieves to have your keys and home address
