I write to remind you that the next meeting of the Bates Area Civic Association will take place on this coming Monday, September 13, 2010, from 7:00 p.m. until 9:00 p.m., in the lower auditorium of Mount Sinai Baptist Church, 3rd and Q Streets, N.W. As you will note in the contents of the flyer that I have pasted below, Mark Jones, the incumbent member of the DC Board of Education from Ward Five, is scheduled to make remarks, as is Will Regan, from UrbanMatters Development Partners, who will update us on his company’s proposal for the future use of the former MM Washington Career High School building, near the intersection of North Capitol and O Streets, N.W. In addition to the receipt of reports from several of our standing committees, there will be the all important election of officers for the 2010 – 2012 cycle. The slate of nominees for the various offices are as follows: Geovani Bonilla for the office of President; Miles Holloman for the office Vice President; Tracina Leake for the office of Secretary; as well as Jon Hasse, Annetta Nicholas, Bradley Thomas, MaryAnn Wilmer and James Berry for At-Large seats on the Executive Committee. At this time, there are no current nominees for the position of Treasurer. Importantly, additional nominees will be accepted if made from the floor at the meeting on Monday.
