Mt. Sinai Baptist Church’s commitment to the neighborhood it serves is longstanding. Specifically, Mt. Sinai is an active and ever present economic factor within the community and embodies diversity in the people who not only worship at the church but also with people in the surrounding community. In October 2010, Mt. Sinai Baptist Church will be celebrating its 100th year in the Shaw community, the Pastor and members invite the surrounding Shaw community to the first Community Appreciation Day, scheduled for October 17, 2010. The event is Mt. Sinai’s way of thanking the residents of the surrounding community for all they do to support the community.

Mt. Sinai Baptist Church Community Appreciation Award:

Nominations Due September 30, 2010

Mt. Sinai Baptist Church is issuing a call for nominations to honor its neighbors (individual or business) that have exhibited outstanding efforts that have impacted the community. Many of you know of hard-working, dedicated individuals who work tirelessly exercising their God given gifts and talents within the community.
Eligibility Criteria
Nominees must be individuals or a business within the immediate Shaw community.Nominations may be made by family, friends, neighbors, or clients.
Multiple Awards and Categories
The Good Samaritan Award

The purpose of the award is to provide a means to recognize an individual, adult or youth who demonstrates the attributes of the Good Samaritan described in Luke 10:25-37.

The candidate for this award should demonstrate “significant” personal and selfless contributions toward others or assistance to individuals in need without hope of personal gain or recognition.

(Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your strength, and with all your mind; and love your neighbor as yourself.” Luke 10:27).

The Joshua Award

This award is to be given to the individual who exemplifies the characteristics and integrity of a leader. The Bible declares Joshua to be an excellent leader who dedicated his life to the Lord. In submitting your nomination, please consider the following. Joshua was a man who regarded Moses as his teacher. He was obedient to him and was attentive to learn from him as the Lord lead Moses. Joshua was ready to lead when called. How is the story of Joshua significant in this person’s life? How has this person influenced you or others in the community? Would you consider this individual to be a modern day Joshua in your life and why?
The Esther Award
A woman who embodies the concept taught in Titus 2, “Older women teaching what is good…” and who has shown leadership and support in the area of major issues confronting women of any age.

The Esther Awards is designed to celebrate and honor women in leadership and ministry that have been committed to helping build the Kingdom of Jesus Christ. This honoree would have been nominated by someone in their church or community that sees the value of their dedication to helping support the ministry efforts.
Esther was beautiful and very intelligent. She did all things decently and in order. Esther knew when to speak and when to be silent. Esther helped save her people by calling them to fast in preparation for her to go to the King without being called by him. Esther was a bold and courageous young lady. She knew that she could be killed when she went before the King without being called. Esther fasted and prayed in order to ask God to prepare the King to receive her without wrath. She accepted her call to help save her people even though she was risking her life.
It is this type of women we want to honor and celebrate. A woman who is a beautiful queen, wise, orderly, intelligent, timely and courageous for the Lord. A woman who will do what God calls her to do in spite of the circumstances that appear to surround her. A woman that has a calling to help God’s people in any ministry that she has been given a gift to do. A woman who is committed to using her gifts to build the kingdom of God.
