Info on Tree Water Rings

It was great to see all the new trees planted around the neighborhood. Then came the strange plastic tree rings (at least they look strange to me). Apparently, they’re called “BioPlex Tree Rings,” and here’s some helpful info from the PoP blog on how they work, and what to do if you don’t want them around your new tree.

• The rings have very small holes in the bottom that allow the ring to empty of water within 3 hours of filling.

• New trees need to be watered DAILY. So if you have one of these, go ahead and fill it up. And pull away the mulch underneath it so that it waters the soil, not just the mulch on top.

• If you want them removed from in front of your house call the Casey Tree office (202-349-1905) and/or the Urban Forestry Administration (202-673-6813)
