Dear Neighbors and Friends,
I attended the PSA 501 meeting this evening to receive updates from MPD on crime in our neighborhood, MPD initiatives and discuss community concerns. Sadly, not many of our neighbors attend this meeting, so I voiced concerns you have discussed with me. During the meeting, I learned the following:
Sgt. Michael Boyd is no longer with PSA 501. Sgt. Boyd was an excellent partner to our community, responsive and the outmost professional. We thank him for his service to our community and for how much safer he made it. Sgt. Boyd is now with Emergency Response Team (SWAT). We wish Sgt. Boyd well and much success in his new position; he will be missed by our community.
- January homicide at North Capital and Florida Avenue continues to be unsolved.
- MPD is CONSIDERING (this is just conversations at this time) redoing the boundaries for some PSAs. Under this consideration, it is possible that the Bates Area Civic Association could potentially be moved to the 3rd District. Under this proposal, the NW side of PSA 501 (west of N. Capital ST) would become part of the 3rd District. MPD will keep community leaders updated if any of these proposals are realized.
- As warm weather approaches, we can expect more street activity to take place. To ensure MPD is made aware of what is happening in the community through your input and participation. MPD will not be attending BACA meetings and addressing all our concerns at the PSA meetings (3rd Wednesday of every month).
- To ensure MPD addresses your concerns at the PSA meeting, you can send me your concerns or issues you would like MPD to discuss (like a crime that took place in your block) and I will compile that information for Lt. Wright to have it on the agenda.
