On Saturday, April 2nd, North Capitol Main Street held its annual business meeting and swore in three new Board Members. Geovani A. Bonilla, President of the Bates Area Civic Association was one of the new Board Members sworn in.
North Capitol Main Street has been focusing on developing existing business opportunities from Rhode Island Ave on the north side south to New York Avenue, east to First ST NW and west to N Capitol ST. NCMS has hosted many business development seminars, worked with local business to secure grants for store front beautification and developing marketing strategies.
NCMS is working to attract new business to our area and is working closely with the developers of the new restaurant scheduled to open July 4th weekend at the old firehouse (N Capitol ST between R and Florida). New business that may be opening soon, coffee shop at the 1400 block of N Capitol ST and a pet shop.
Many of NCMS efforts have been lead by the NCMS Board and volunteers, which have been primarily from Bloomingdale. It is the Board and volunteers that are the engine to make these projects reality, so it makes sense that the fruits of their labor be in their neighborhoods.
Geovani A. Bonilla joined the board to ensure BACA is represented and included in economic development plans. One person alone is not enough though, so BACA area volunteers will be essential for NCMS to have the resources to bring economic development to BACA.

I forgot to also mention, the event was held at Rustic Tavern on T ST and First ST NW. Great place if you have not yet been there.
Congrats on your new position, Geovani! You are truly a tireless advocate for our neighborhood. Thank you.
Thank you Ryan. I love this community. I moved here when there was no New York Ave metro and I have seen so many great changes. I know that the next couple of years are critical and the time is right to make this a world class community. This is the most rewarding volunteer job I have done in a long time.
