Lebanon House will open on the grounds of theM.M.WashingtonSchoollocated at the unit block of O ST NW. This development will be essential to the redevelopment of a city block in our neighborhood that has been overwhelmed by social programs.
This senior housing development will keep the eastern wing of the building and make the space between the east building and west building into a courtyard. The west building, which originally was a smaller building with a gymnasium added later, will be divided into two buildings. The external original wall of the west building will be once again exposed and restored with a court yard between those two buildings.
A benefit to the community (in addition to the transformation of that part of the block) is a 5,000 square foot community room. The community room will seat about 500 people and available to the community at large for community events. Expect a Bates Area Civic Association or Hanover Civic Association event to take place there in the near future.

Just bought a house on this block last month (you meant O St, right?), and was thrilled when I heard of this development. Though SOME has not proved intrusive, and does a lot for those in need, I am glad to know that we’ll have some new real neighbors, instead of more social services. It’s sad to see those big old buildings left to languish; this block is full of great people, and I look forward to meeting some more!
