BACA Social – Dessert and Soft Drinks to announce the 2011 Flower Power Winners and Runner Ups. Come meet the owners of those great yards and gardens and meet some of our great neighbors. There will not be a structured BACA meeting this month due to the National Night Out.
Tuesday, August 2nd from 6pm – 8:30pm. on the grounds of CAPCS Charter School (1400 First St NW) National Night Out – 5th District and Ward 5’s Kick Off. Come enjoy live entertainment, music, Zumba dancers, basketball, wacky Olympics, refreshments and much more. If you are a cyclist, bring your bike and join MPD (possibly Chief Cathy Lanier) on a 5 mile ride along the Metropolitan Bike Trail. There will lots of prizes and giveaways. This event is a partnership between Metropolitan Police and local communities nationwide.
A Candle Light Vigil will be led by Tony Lewis, Jr. from The Sons of Life. Mr. Lewis is the son of Tony Lewis, is one of the most well-known drug kingpins in the history of D.C.,” Lewis said. “For me to not follow in his footsteps and to be a beacon of positive light amongst the ex-offender population is something that I take very seriously and I take pride in.” .

Saturday, August 6th 12pm – 6pm.First St NW from P to Rhode Island and T St NW.
North Capitol Main Street’s 3rd Annual Art Walk. Come enjoy art sculptures displayed through different yards along the First St corridor starting on Rhode Island Avenue and south to P St NW. Art work will also be displayed along N. Capitol Street. Four bands will be playing through the route and the event will conclude with a block party and cook out at the unit block of T St NW. There will be an ArtistVillage where you can view and purchase art from local artists as well as a children’s campground. This event bring over 500 art lovers into our community, promotes local businesses and business space and provides developers and investors to see the best of our area.
