Update on Ward 5 ANC redistricting

The Ward 5 ANC/SMD Redistricting Task Force has setup a blog to discuss the local ANC redistricting that will occur in ward 5. It’s located at: http://ward5redistricting.blogspot.com/.

The next planning meeting will be held Wednesday, August 24, 2011- 5th District Police Station 1805 Bladensburg Road NE. From the few posts that are online, it appears a major topic of redistricting will be whether to shrink the size of the ANC’s and add a few more or keep the existing three we have today.

For those unfamiliar with the role of an ANC, the are local elected, unpaid commissioners who represent your neighborhood’s interest to the DC government in many matters including liquor licenses, zoning, economic development, police protection, sanitation and trash collection. BACA is almost completely inside the single member district of ANC 5C01 which borders 5C02 (Hanover/Eckington) to the south and east and borders 5C03 (Bloomingdale) to the north. The current ANC 5C boundaries extend from New York Ave playground in the south east all the way to a few blocks north of Catholic University. For more information on ANC5C please see http://www.anc5c.biz/ and more background on ANC’s in general please visit the dc government site at http://anc.dc.gov/anc/site/default.asp.
