Current Ward 5 Redistricting Committee Recommends Splitting our Neighborhood

The Ward 5 Redistricting Committee Task Force is meeting on Wednesday, September 21stat 6:30pm. The meeting takes place at the Israel Baptist Church at 1251 Saratoga Avenue NE, Washington, DC

We are asking our neighbors to come out and observe the discussion of  the current proposal to divide our neighborhood and Single Member District (SMD) 5C01 into two parts. This proposal recommends that ANC 5C01 be divided and that the unit blocks of P St, Bates St, Q St and Florida Ave NW be removed from ANC 5C01 and placed into a new SMD that would include Hanover Civic Association and parts of Bloomingdale.

Commissioner Pinkney and Geovani A. Bonilla, both who serve on the Redistricting Committee will be presenting an alternative proposal that allows SMD 5C01 and 5C02 to remain unchanged. We need our community to come out and show that our community supports this proposal and refuses to be split.

You may also show your support for our alternative plan by:

 ·         Emailing the Redistricting Task Force Chair and Councilmember Thomas’ Chief of Staff: Ayawna Chase at achase@dccouncil.us

·         Sign the attached Petition

·         Come to the Redistricting Task Force Meeting

Sincerely,

Geovani A. Bonilla

  1. There are no maps as these are proposals. The Office of Planning will generate maps from the final proposals submitted by the redistricting committee.
