From DCist:
After years of delays, the CityMarket at O development in Shaw may well pick up steam thanks to a job creation plan proposed by President Barack Obama.
According to the Post, the market was picked as one of 14 infrastructure projects across the country that could quickly create jobs under Obama’s America Jobs Act. The $260 million project broke ground last September and is expected to be completed in 2013. The development will feature a new Giant supermarket and 628 residential units, including 86 set aside for seniors.
The U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development will help speed the process of gaining federal loans and approvals for the construction:
City Market at “O” Street is a mixed-use property consisting of 400 market-rate residential units, 16,000 square feet of retail space and a 57,000-square-foot supermarket with financing under the Federal Housing Administration (FHA) Section 220 insured mortgage program. In conjunction with this project and others, FHA has embarked on an effort to streamline the approval process for loans, including review of related federal permits and is working with the Advisory Council on Historic Preservation to expedite the National Historic Trust approval, subject to Section 106 of the National Historic Preservation Act.
The market was built in 1881, but fell into disrepair after the 1968 riots. In 2003, its roof collapsed after a snowstorm. The Shaw Giant recently closed its doors for the construction of its replacement.

Here is the Washington Post article on this news: http://www.washingtonpost.com/blogs/44/post/obama-selects-dc-project-13-others-to-help-spur-jobs/2011/10/11/gIQAJTMNcL_blog.html.
Too bad Republicans want the economy to suffer so that Obama will lose reelection. GOPers killed the jobs bill in the Senate last night.
