| Mayor’s One City Community Service AwardThe Mayor’s One City Community Service Awards are intended to recognize, reward and encourage activities that make or have a significant impact on meeting the needs of District of Columbia communities.
Individual nominees must be District residents and must have volunteered in the District within the past year. The selection of a nominee is based on the extent to which the nomination statement clearly demonstrates how the nominee has met or is meeting the following criteria:

Nominee demonstrates an outstanding commitment to service and/or volunteerism

Nominee’s positive influence meets or addresses a community need or enhances quality of life in the District
-
Nominee demonstrates exemplary acts of generosity and kindness
-
Nominee embraces community service as an ongoing commitment
*A DC resident is defined as residing in the District of Columbia outside of a dormitory for at least one (1) year.
Categories:
National Service Award
Individuals nominated must be District residents who have demonstrated exemplary commitment to volunteerism and service within a national service capacity or program, i.e. AmeriCorps and its affiliates.
Emergency Preparedness and Public Safety Award
Individuals nominated must be District residents who have demonstrated exemplary commitment to emergency preparedness and/or public safety through volunteerism and service.
Education Service Award
Individuals nominated must be District residents who have demonstrated exemplary commitment to supporting education through volunteerism and service.
Youth Volunteer Service Award
Individuals nominated must be District residents, age 24 or younger, who have demonstrated exemplary commitment to volunteerism and service.
The Advocate Award: HIV/AIDS
Individuals nominated must be District residents, who have demonstrated exemplary commitment to HIV/AIDS education and prevention through volunteerism and service.
The Community Service Award
Individuals nominated must be District residents, who have demonstrated exemplary commitment to their neighborhood and/or Ward through volunteerism and service.
Nominations are due by 5 pm on Monday, October 24, 2011.
The nomination deadline has been extended to 5 pm, Friday, October 28, 2011.
