[MPD-5D] Safety Tips for Runners, Walkers, Cyclists

For Runners, Walkers, Bicyclists

Ward 5 has lots of walkers, runners and cyclists. While staying fit,
please remember to also take these precautions to stay safe.

Plan your outings. Always tell a family member or friend where you are
going and when you will return. Let them know what your favorite
exercise routes are.

Stay alert at all times. The more aware you are, the less vulnerable
you are. Run, walk, or bike with a partner or a dog. Don’t wear
headsets. If you wear them you won’t hear an approaching car or
attacker.

If Someone Tries to Rob You, don’t fight if you are unable to run away.
Give up your property—don’t give up your life.

Report the crime to the police. Try to describe the attacker accurately.
Your actions can help prevent others from becoming victims.

Finally, remember to ALWAYS make Safety a priority. There is safety in
the buddy system, walking with dogs and groups, cycling with bike clubs
and running with friends.
