I-395 AIR RIGHTS TUNNEL REHABILITATION

NIGHT WORK WILL BEGIN IN THE SOUTHBOUND TUNNEL

PHASE 4 WORK ON SOUTH SIDE OF MASSACHUSETTS AVENUE BRIDGE TO BEGIN

EFFECTIVE MONDAY, AUGUST 27, 2012

 I-395 Southbound Tunnel Night Work

DDOT will begin switching the temporary traffic barriers that are now in place in the southbound tunnel lanes to the center lanes on Monday, August 27, 2012; weather permitting. Traffic will be shifted to the right. This work will be ongoing all of next week. This shift is required to facilitate the contractor’s preparation and completion of the electrical system upgrade serving the south bound tunnel.

Hours of night work are between 9:00 p.m. – 5:00 a.m. Variable Message Signs (VMS) are installed prior to each tunnel entrance to caution drivers.

Phase 4 Work on Massachusetts Avenue Bridge to Begin; South Sidewalk Will Remain Closed

DDOT and the Contractor will begin Stage 4 work in the middle of the Massachusetts Avenue Bridge between 2nd and 3rd Streets, NW. The south sidewalk will remain closed to pedestrians. This phase involves installing pavement markings and protection shields in preparation of the removal of surface asphalt and demolition of the bridge joints.
Safety on Our Minds
As always, drivers and pedestrians are strongly encouraged to adhere to the work zone safety barriers and traffic signage. A construction work zone can be a dangerous place. The barriers are set up to protect the public and the construction workers.

DDOT and the Contractor encourage all motorists traveling through the work zone to stay alert.
