A commitment to neighbors and to local enterprise animate the business approach of Atilla Suzer, owner of Bacio Pizzeria and Green Paws pet store with his wife Lisa Friedman. Both businesses are located at 81 Seaton Place NW in Bloomingdale. Bacio Pizzeria is on the first floor and Green Paws is upstairs.
“You have to be a partner of the neighborhood,” Atilla explained about his approach. “Business always comes in second place; pizza is just something I can give.” As if on cue, several customers walk by Bacio’s front window and wave.
Atilla told me about one customer who happened to walk in while he was conducting a tasting with his ice cream supplier, Susan Soorenko, of the small-batch dairy Moorenko’s. The customer was invited to join the tasting and picked his favorites – Cookie Overload, Salted Caramel with Pralines, Bittersweet Chocolate and Fresh Ginger – which Atilla then selected as Bacio’s maiden offerings.
