Hi Geovani. We are sadly aware that the store has been targeted at an unusual rate for burglaries and robberies in the past several months. I have met with the owner, and our officers have been making frequent and regular visits to the store since the second burglary.

Lt. Griffin has also visited the store and we will work with the owner to see if there are measures he can take to address safety concerns.

We certainly want the store to remain a viable neighborhood business.

Dear Commander Solberg –

In November of 2012, the convenience store at 3rd and P St NW was robbed and their window was smashed. In December of 2012 (after Xmas and before New Year’s) the store was held at gun point, today, the store was robbed once again, this is following multiple other thefts by juveniles.

We are extremely concerned about this store being a target, as it seems that monthly, for the past six month, the store experiences some type of crime. I had reached out to you in November and you were going to reach out to the business to help them improve their security measures. This is the FIRST store in our neighborhood to open up without the security glass that prevents customers from walking through the store and selecting their own merchandise; this is a business we want to preserve.

As it starts t get dark, there are many individuals that loiter at the corner of store and this is also the case in the afternoons. For a while, MPD had been putting this business on its patrol routes, is it possible that that may be done again? I am also including Council Member McDuffie and Commissioner Joyce Robinson-Paul (who is the ANC for this SMD) to help us come up with some solutions to prevent this business owner from closing its doors and ending up with another liquor store in that location (which is what was previously there).
