Humanities Council of Washington, DC: Free Workshops & Commemoration Grants

Dear Neighborhood/Civic Association Leader:

The Humanities Council of Washington, DC is reaching out to Neighborhood and Civic Associations in an effort to broaden our reach and engage city residents in unique programs and opportunities that offer assistance to those that wish to learn more about capturing and preserving the history of their community or family.

The council invites you to attend two upcoming programs and to apply for a grant opportunity that may be of immense value and interest to you and your neighbors.

In March, we will be conducting our wildly popular house history workshops and best practices workshops. Have you ever wondered whether or not you lived in the former residence of a notable Washingtonian or just curious enough to trace the history of your home and its’ builders? Then these house history workshops are for you and will provide you with the skills to discover that history. Our best practices workshops will focus on proven methods for conducting oral histories, video production and finally, digital preservation and archiving techniques for storing and organizing those precious papers, photographs, memorabilia and other items of historic value.

Lastly, we are also offering Commemoration/Remembrance Grants. These grants will be awarded to organizations interested in commemorating historical events, individuals and places. For more information on this grant opportunity, please visit www.wdchumanities.org

Please, feel free to disseminate widely and announce at upcoming community meetings. All of our programs are expected fill up fast so we encourage those that wish to attend to register early! Please see the attached flyers for more details on any of these opportunities.

If there are any questions or concerns, please feel free to contact me directly.

 Cordially,

 Michael L. Chambers, II
