COUNCILMEMBER ORANGE ASSUMES OVERSIGHT FOR ALCOHOLIC BEVERAGE REGULATION ADMINISTRATION
DC Council Vote To Give Councilmember Orange Jurisdiction
(Washington, D.C.) On Monday, February 25, 2013, Councilmember Vincent Orange (D-At-Large) assumed oversight jurisdiction for the District’s Alcoholic Beverage Regulation Administration (“ABRA”), which issues and renews licenses that enable qualified businesses to sell and serve alcoholic beverages in the city. The Council of the District of Columbia voted 10 to 2 ( with Councilmember Orange abstaining) to transfer jurisdiction of ABRA to the Committee on Business, Consumer, and Regulatory Affairs (“Committee”), which is chaired by Councilmember Orange.
“I accept the vote of the Council and acknowledge the responsibility that has been entrusted to me,” said Councilmember Orange. “I also look forward to working with Councilmember Jim Graham, who is a member of the Committee, and will seek his expertise on ABRA issues. He has provided excellent leadership over the years on ABRA issues.” Oversight of District liquor licenses and alcohol issues previously belonged to Councilmember Jim Graham (D-Ward 1), as head of the Human Services Committee.
Along with Graham, Councilmembers Yvette Alexander, Mary Cheh and David Grosso also serve on Councilmember Orange’s Committee.
