Safety Tips if Traveling For The Holidays

If you are traveling away from home for the holiday season, here are some basic safety precautions you may take to prevent having your home being broken into:

Stop newspaper      delivery – piled up newspapers in front of your house is a clear signal to      thieves that you are not home.

  1. Place      mail delivery on hold – The U.S. Postal Service will stop delivering your mail      for the period of time you designate. You may do it online at https://holdmail.usps.com/holdmail/
  2. Notify      Metropolitan Police Department that you will be out of town. This allows      MDP to put your home on their list to patrol to ensure all doors and windows      look secure. You may notify PSA 501 Lieutenant Randy Griffin at  randy.griffin@dc.gov
  3. Notify      your alarm company that you will be out of town and who should be      contacted if your alarm goes off.
  4. Let a      trusted neighbor know. Neighbors are essential in ensuring everything      looks as it should be if you are out of town.
