 ***PUBLIC NOTICE***

DDOT Accepting Applications for the 2014 Transportation for Elderly and Persons with Disabilities Program

Applications Are Due Friday, February 14, 2014

(Washington, D.C.) The District Department of Transportation (DDOT) invites interested non-profit organizations to submit an application to participate in DDOT’s 2014 Transportation for Elderly Persons and Persons with Disabilities Section 5310 Program.  This program provides financial assistance to non-profit agencies, including local or neighborhood based nonprofit organizations and religious or charitable organizations, to purchase vehicles and wheelchair equipment that can help them meet the transportation needs of elderly persons and persons with disabilities when other transportation service is unavailable to meet their needs.

The funds for the program are apportioned to the District by the Federal Transit Administration (FTA) of the U.S. Department of Transportation which considers the number of elderly persons and persons with disabilities within each State when appropriating funds. DDOT ensures that local applicants and project activities are eligible and in compliance with Federal requirements.

Eligible capital purchases include: para-transit vehicles and wheelchair lifts and restraints. The costs of the vehicles vary depending on the type of vehicle selected by the organization.  See the application for more details.

The Section 5310 program provides 80 percent of the cost of the vehicle/equipment purchased.  The applicant is responsible for providing the remaining 20 percent from non-federal sources or federal sources pre-designated for transportation purposes.  The program application is available online at: www.ddot.dc.gov/5310

Program applications are due Friday, February 14, 2014.
