Young Child Reading to Seniors

An excellent example of intergenerational interaction is shown here as Chloe Thompson, a student at Langdon Education Campus, reads to older adults during the ALTRUSA Greater Washington meeting.

DCOA in conjunction with D.C. Public Schools (DCPS) completed the training of 15 senior volunteers in support of Mayor Gray’s early childhood development program, focusing on the mentoring and tutoring of children aged 3-4 years old in the schools.  The eight week program was designed to allow participants the opportunity to understand the behavior of children and teach new techniques to help children read.

We are looking for our next group of volunteers.  If you are interested in a rewarding opportunity, contact Darrell Jackson, Jr. at 202-724-5622 or darrell.jacksonjr@dc.gov and sign up today!
