Call for Public Witnesses for Hearing on McDuffie’s Equal Pay Legislation

On Monday, June 23rd, the Council’s Judiciary & Public Safety Committee will hold a hearing on Councilmember McDuffie’s “Wage Transparency Amendment Act” (Bill 20-757). Councilmember McDuffie is seeking residents to testify in person or to submit written testimony in support of the bill. The bill enables employees to freely discuss their wages without fear of termination, discipline, interference, or other forms of retaliation by their employers. The bill also bans “pay secrecy” policies in private and public sector employment. Such policies prevent employees from discovering instances of pay discrimination.
