This Saturday the DC Department of Health will be providing a Free Animal Vaccination Clinic for dogs & cats (in a carrier box) at Shaw Dog Park (April 25th, 1:00 pm – 4:00) with a purchase of DC dog license. Shaw Dog Park is located in the 1600 block of 11th St. NW. You can get a DC dog license/Registration Tag (No cash bring check or money order – $13 neutered dogs; $46 for non-neutered dogs) and the DC Dog Exercise Area tag. Even if your dog is current on vaccinations you can get the DC registration requirements completed.
As you may recall part of the DC Parks & Recreation rules for the new dog park require current tags for: Rabies Vaccination tag, DC Dog Registration tag and DC Dog Exercise Area tag. This is your opportunity to help ensure that we, as the users of this dog park, are in compliance with these rules.
You will have to bring proof of rabies if your dog is current and you are just looking to complete the licensing/tags. You may want to print and complete the forms prior to coming. Bring your check book.
How to register your dog and get a license and a dog park tag:
The following information is derived from DC Department of Parks and Recreation website (dpr.dc.gov) as well as the DC Department of Public Health. By law, every dog in the District must be registered and licensed with the Department of Health/Animal Control Division. To use legal dog parks, you must also get a dog park tag.
Here’s how to do it:
1. Obtain a copy of your dog’s current rabies and distemper vaccination from your veterinarian and proof of neutering (if applicable).
2. Complete the following two forms (if you have a :
- a dog license application – use the online form and print it out here.
- a dog park tag (required for all dogs at the DPR administered dog parks), print the application here.
Enclose a check or money order (for the dog license application) to “D.C. Treasurer” ($13 if dog is neutered or spayed, otherwise, the cost is $46). Mail the completed applications, the vaccination certificate and proof of neutering (if applicable) and check/money order to:
