New Latin American Youth Center

I posted before about the Latin American School to go into the old JF Cook School at Unit and P St. However, it seems instead it is a Youth Center. Mai Fernandez, the director, will be speaking about it at next Monday’s BACA meeting. I don’t know anything about it but their web site is impressive.

  1. Seems like a worthy and well established program. But I do wonder: will Cook house their HQ or actually provide direct services? If direct services, are there enough Latin American immigrant youth in the neighborhood to warrant a full-fledged center catering to them? Or will they come in from other neighborhoods? Will that lead to problems, for instance conflicts with local youth?

This is not meant in any way to pre-judge this effort, but there are plenty of questions to ask at the BACA meeting.

Question, comment, or suggestion?
