Neighborhood Tree Planting grant

Casey Trees has a community tree planting grant that neighborhoods can apply for. The grant deadline is June 15. Are folks in our neighborhood interested in this? email me if so, and if there’s enough interest I’ll consider spearheading writing the application.

Applicants must:

– Propose locations for a minimum of ten (10) trees
– Obtain permission of all property owners were trees will be planted
– Agree to a post planting, two-year maintenance plan for the trees that includes weekly watering
– Attend an orientation meeting
– Provide lunch (i.e. pizza/bbq) to volunteers immediately following the planting

  1. I’d be interested, but the deadline is kinda tight considering that they have a minimum of 10 trees. Any ideas on locations? The triangle ‘park’ between NJ Ave and 4th could stand a few, but probably not ten unless they were smaller.

  2. Does anyone want to do a neighborhood walk to scout out possible locations?

If only those darn billboards were not on NJ and P!!

I avail myself to any help you need Caryn

  3. I would be intrested in helping. There might be room for one on the patch of grass in front of our house.

  4. there’s been little interest exhibited so far. Frankly they do this twice a year. I think for time’s sake, we may have to do the next round if we want it. But Pete, why don’t we continue to think about it for the next round.

  5. Yeah, what we might do is take a little neighborhood inventory and then come up with a plan. Seeing as the city is slow to replace trees along the street, this might be a way to jump start that process, and fill in some larger patches in need.
