Mayor keeping promises?

This patch of bricks in the sidewalk has been in disrepair since a fire at 1530 3rd St NW last year. The mayor’s staff promised on July 10 to get this fixed . It looks like he meant it! Here are orange cones that indicate a repair may be imminent. Let’s see if the mayor keeps his promises. This would bode well for the larger list of concerns we discussed with the mayor during his walk-through that day. Follow up is planned for October to see where those issues stand.

Hopefully, I’ll post the “after” photo soon of the repaired sidewalk soon. The meaning to our neighbors should be: The devil is in the details! Even the smallest things make an impact.

Along other lines, it does seem the track at Dunbar High has also been open in the morning and afternoons. Thanks Mr. Mayor

Also, here’s the laundry list of items to follow up on with the mayor in October:

  • Florida Park  (at 1 and Florida St NW) – Anita Bonds – paid out of pocket to paint the Florida Park recently. The mayor said the park will be renovated eventually. The walls/fence around it will come down.  An architect has been designated.  She said this was on a fast track.
  • Dunbar High School Pool – Renovation is set for the pool.  Also on the Fast Track;
  • JF Cook School/LAYC – The Mayor kept asking, “Are you sure the decision is finalized.”  The main point was that the community cannot handle another social service entity.
  • The billboard at 4th and P.  See update below.
  • Egress on P St NW – This is a narrow entrance to the alley near 1st St. It is dangerous and for years has been an attraction for vagrants. DPW was already there this morning cleaning up the egress. Also on the fast track.
  • Dunbar Track – Residents want access.  Fenty said it was open for exercise  at 6am. The argument deflated because some residents said they could access the track in the morning.
  • Loitering – O St/Unit block – commitment to get the commander to meet with merchants and citizens around the area to address the problem.

    1. Glad that you or someone took notes during the Mayor’s last visit and recorded the commitments made.

    2. I’m not trying to put down Fenty, but I think we owe the new sidewalk to Ephrem on 3rd St. He first reported it on 4/8/08 and kept hounding DDOT with the tracking number of his request, while keeping many neighbors informed as to his progress or lack there of.
