I got off the G-2 a few minutes ago to find crime scene tape blocking off part of the 200 block of Q St. NW. A Channel 5 newsman told me that two people had been stabbed; one of them killed.
The official word via the MPD listserv:
Today at approximately 1430 hours the Fifth District experienced a homicide in the 200 block of Q Street NW. Thus far we have established that two subjects were walking in the block and were stabbed by a black male suspect dressed in all dark clothing, the suspect appeared to be in his early thirties with a close hair cut.
The subject was alleged to have fled west bound on Q street. One of the victims died as a result of his injuries. Anyone with additional information relative to this incident please call 202 727 9099 immediately.
This blog, of course, isn’t a collection of crime stories, but the topic does have a way of becoming unavoidable at times. Homicide in the middle of the day is one of those times. Hopefully this perpetrator will soon be taken off the street.
Update from Caryn: Here’s a story from the local news on it. http://www.myfoxdc.com/dpp/news/local/082609_q_street_double_stabbing
Would be good to find some more details. This sounds eriely similar to some other attacks in that area.
thanks for posting this, i saw all the police activity and was wondering what happened. I cross posted on the shaw listserve…
Concerning similarities, one of which I’m aware is the killing of Delfa Hercules, who was stabbed to death early in the morning at a bus stop on 3rd St. NW last year: http://www.washingtonpost.com/wp-dyn/content/article/2008/10/10/AR2008101002323.html. I don’t know if anyone has been charged or convicted of this crime, though I believe someone was arrested for robberies that happened in that vicinity during the same period of time,
In addition, a gay man, Durval Martins, was killed late last year at 11th and Q NW, shot to death as he walked home late at night: http://dcist.com/2008/12/blade_11th_and_q_shooting_victim_id.php. I’m also unaware if this crime has been solved.
I mention Mr. Martins’ death because the victim of the recent killing was a transgender woman, who used the name Tyli’a “NaNa Boo” Mack. And her sexuality reportedly was an issue in the conflict that ended with her death: http://www.washblade.com/thelatest/thelatest.cfm?blog_id=26935.
The Washington Blade story linked to above has the most detail that I’ve seen concerning the killing of Ms. Mack.
