ISSUES UPDATE:

Attend the ANC 5C Community Meeting on Tuesday, September 29, 2009, 7-9 pm at All Nations Baptist Church, North Capitol at Rhode Island Ave, NE where resident Pete Balas as BACA Environmental Committee Chair will present a funding request towards beautification of our neighborhood. Attention to area tree boxes, streetlight posts and regular clean p campaigns will be proposed.

As you may know, DCRA recently indicated that discussions are planned with the owner of the location of the “illegal” billboards at 4th/Islamic Way on P Street.  While this good news is like music, the community remains vigilant.  In fact, Denise Prichard will present a resolution of community support for the removal of the billboards at the September 29 ANC 5C meeting.

Finally, the September 29 meeting will also feature an updated status report on the proposed use of Cook School (unit block of P St.) as a public charter trades school with residential units.

Note to the Wise: Please curb your dog and pick up the waste to dispose in your home trash.

Pending Items:

Community petitions requesting Speed Humps for the 1600-1700 blocks of Fourth Street were submitted to DDOT nearly 1 year ago.  Most recent follow up indicated that the work request is included in the current back-log.  According to DDOT, “every community is requesting these traffic calming measures.”  While the request for Humps in the unit – 100 blocks of P Street were made less than 6 months ago, this request is also delayed due to the popularity of the program.  My personal apologies for this important service delay.

Oct-Nov Reminder:

Autumn leaves will soon fall throughout the neighborhood, then, there will be snow.  Remember that it is our responsibility as residents to keep the public sidewalk in front of our residence free and accessible at all times. Further, while we love our youth remaining safe by playing on the streets, skateboards, bikes, etc. do not belong on the sidewalk and at least should move or get out of the way of runners and pedestrians.

  1. Derek, This is not a dig but a friendly reminder to all of us dog owners that some neighbors complain of dog waste in the public space of the community. I thought it prudent to send a note requesting that we all curb our animals and remove the “curbing” for proper disposal. Note: While recently in the city of Austin Texas, there was an interesting public service announcement aired on local tv stations that pointed out the estimated number of dogs located in the city…and reminded residents to pick up the waste from the public domain. I thought it could be usefully applied to our neighborhood. Anita
