The Next Event …

Fall is here and winter is just around the corner. What project would you like to see the Environmental Services Committee organize next? Leaf clean-ups? Should we wait until Spring? Street clean-ups while the sweepers on on winter break? Send me and Anita your comments and suggestions.

Also, Anita and I will be resubmitting a request with DDOT for a meeting to discuss the painting of lamp posts and possible hanging flower baskets.

  1. I would like to see us organize a neighborhood compost pile for all the leaves, and perhaps a community garden. Is there a vacant lot or empty house’s yard, where we could perhaps get permission to do such a thing? Thanks Pete, you are really doing such an awesome job.

  2. I would like to see the streets and curbs maintained to the entire area while the mechanical sweepers are on winter break as well as continuous manual sweeping and trash removal from sidewalks, curbs and storm drains.

  3. The Marion St Garden (Ward 2, 1500 block of Marion, btwn 6th & 7th) needs leaves for a winter cover crop for the new garden. We’re also looking to collect large cardboard boxes to help cultivate ths soil before planting starts in the Spring.

5th Street Ace Hardware has been very generous contributing their leftover cardboard boxes, but we have the space of two city lots to cover, so for now, we need as much as possible.

Contact Liz Falk, Liz@CommonGoodCityFarm.org or rebecca@cityblossoms.org who are leading the planning for the new garden.
