CommunityImpactStatementOn Monday, 8 February 2010, 10:30AM, Room 412, the Council Committee on Public Safety and the Judiciary is scheduled to hold a public hearing on B18 – “Community Impact Statement Amendment Act of 2009”. This bill was Co-Introduced by Committee Chairman Phil Mendelson, Councilman Jack Evans, Councilwoman Muriel Bowser, and is Co-Sponsored by Councilman Jim Graham. The bill is designed to “…permit the submission of a community impact statement prior to the imposition of sentence and to require the Court to consider such statement in determining an appropriate sentence.” If you wish to testify on the bill, please e-mail the Committee Clerk Heidi Tseu at htseu@dccouncil.us.
BACA residents, due to the unusual and new wave of incidents we have seen in our area, as Safety Committee Chair, I urge you to please testify on how early release of offenders not only infringes upon your rights as a law abiding citizen, but also decreases the quality of life and safety in our neighborhood. Please click on the link (opening sentence) to view this bill.
Wishing you a safe new year.

Hello, I’m all for the flower Power project,it went over very well in Oct.,however, my block N.Capital&P ST. needs Zone paking bad! We have been trying for a year to get this very necessary restricted parking,to no avail, yet the floewrs come so easily and quickly! what gives?
What percentage of the required signatures did you get? Using the blog we could probably get total over the 51% needed.
By the by, does anyone know when the petition was submitted for the 1500 block of 3rd Street NW? I understand the signs are installed in the quarter following the acceptance of the petition. So this means March 2010 or June 2010 to me.
Tracey – you know the DC wheels move slowly. The application with over 51% of the residents supporting it was submitted. DC had to do a “impact study” and once that was done the application was approved. Once approved, the application is submitted to DDOT on the following quarter. Signs have to be ordered, manufactured and installed, so this is not a 3 month process – it is more like a 9 month process all together. Our application was not approved until around August/September for the unit block of P ST NW.
