DMV Announces New Online Change of Address Service

(Washington, DC) – Today, the DC Department of Motor Vehicles (DMV) announced a new online service that allows residents to change their address through the dmv.dc.gov website. DC DMV continues to offer services designed to help residents “skip the trip” and conduct transactions online.

Using the online change of address application, residents can quickly update address information on their driver’s licenses, identification cards, and vehicles registered in the District of Columbia. To keep records current, residents are required to submit updated information to DMV within five days of a change of address.

There is a change of address fee and customers must provide at least one primary source document to show proof of DC residency. The residency document will be verified by DC DMV prior to the address being changed. Temporary mailing addresses and P.O. Boxes are NOT ALLOWED for change of address transactions. Customers, who reside with someone else and do not have a primary source document in their name, must visit a DC DMV service center to change their address and provide the necessary documentation.

For vehicles with co-owners, the change of address will only be applicable to the primary owner. If there is a co-owner on the vehicle registration, that individual must apply independently for change of address on his or her driver’s license.
