U.S. marshals are searching for a D.C. man wanted for violating his parole for stabbing a man in Northwest Washington.

On March 29, 2009, 45-year-old Calvin Herring and another man were arguing in the 100 block of O Street NW. Herring pulled out a knife, stabbed his victim in the stomach then fled the scene, authorities said.

The victim survived the attack, and Herring was arrested the next week. Herring pleaded guilty to assault with significant bodily injury, but he has violated the conditions of his parole and the judge in the stabbing case issued a warrant for his arrest in January. Authorities are asking the public to help track Herring down.

“Herring is exactly the type of person we don’t need roaming the streets, someone who has shown violent, dangerous behavior and no signs of reforming,” said Rob Fernandez, commander of the Capital Area Regional Fugitive Task Force. “We need the community’s help in locating him and putting him back in prison where he belongs.”

Herring has an extensive criminal history including numerous convictions for armed robbery, assault with a deadly weapon and theft. Since 1983, he has been sentenced to a total of 21 years behind bars, marshals deputies said.
