A sign just went up at the space where Luciana Cafe used to be. The new place’s name is Zz Pizza and Kabob, there already appears to be one location in Maryland, here’s the menu. Anyone ever been there?
It’s good that the space won’t be empty anymore, but it also does not appear to be much of an upgrade compared to current food options on NCap St.

Joerg! Your inaugural blog post! Welcome and keep us posted on new stuff. Only thing I’m going to do is change this to be under the category “Retail.”
I agree it’s a little disappointing for it to be another generic take-out place, but glad to see kabobs offered. Hopefully they are decent and will keep me from having to travel all the way over to Dupont for Moby Dick’s.
This is quite unfortunate. Is the plexiglass staying up? It looks like just one more front to sell undesirable items through the plexi-glass. Single cigarettes and other likely illegal goodies, like the many “chinese” food fronts scattered on nearly every block. Very Sad to see another of these places open up in the neighborhood. Maybe it will close as quickly as Luciana.
It’s a hard market there for businesses. I hope it doesn’t shut down. It’s better than nothing in that spot. Luciana’s owners were earnest business people, and I liked their food. I’m sorry they were unsuccessful. Let’s work with businesses daring enough to come to this area to see if they can make their stores more desireable. I know that Luciana wanted to do better but just couldn’t make enough money. Also, the video store that was across the street ended up switching products in order to market what cells in the area. It’s unfortunate but they’ve got to have a market before they will risk coming to that block of NCap.
I was sorry to see Luciana’s close, great food and a responsible owner. It wasn’t a front to sell anything undesirable. If you had been in to Luciana’s, yes there was glass, but it was open most of the time. All of his attempts to put in tables unfortunately only resulted in vagrants looking for a free seat.
Unfortunately, the glass is almost a necessity of doing business on N. Cap. Look how much Subway has to put up with when a cop isn’t camped out inside.
I walk by there most days and will keep an eye out for what the interior buildout will look like (as you can see from the photo, the windows are currently all boarded up). I’m somewhat hopeful that–like Luciana Cafe–this place won’t have plexiglass separating the staff from customers, although the sad truth is that such security measures are not entirely unwarranted.
