2 Major Development Projects Discussed by 5C ANC

On Thursday, June 16, 2011, at two different ANC meetings, I was able to attend both meetings (arrived 45 minutes late to the second one) and here is the update.

Meeting 1 – The 5C ANC Economic Development Committee reviewed and discussed the plans for redevelopment of the M.M. Washington School into an 82 unit senior housing complex. Commissioner Sylvia Pinkey, who represents the Single Member District where the property is located, gave her approval of the project. The Committee gave its approval and will bring it to the full 5C ANC for a vote on Tuesday, June 21st.

Meeting 2 – Bloomingdale Commissioners, Youngblood, Salatti and Fournier held a community meeting to discuss the proposed development of McMillan Reservoir. This project will have a tremendous impact in our economic development, traffic, water and sewage and overall quality of life. Community input is being sought as the city makes plans for development. Green space, retail, residential, transportation and sewage are just some of the community concerns. Community members are encouraged (fromHanovernorth to Bloomingdale and east toCatholicUniversityand Eckington) are encouraged to be a part of these discussion. Commissioner Bradley Thomas also attended this meeting (after chairing meeting 1).  Please contact Geovani A. Bonilla if you wish to be a part of the BACA representatives on this project.
