Alrighty neighbors, if you haven’t been to the corner store at NJ Avenue and Q St NW in a while, it’s time to go check them out. They’ve completely renovated the space. It’s clean and spacious and has a sandwich counter in the back now, serving hotdogs, burgers, fries and more (as well as a couple of what appear to be fast foodish Ethiopian dishes). The owners Nadia and her husband are so sweet and probably open to trying to carry items of interest to return customers. Go by and check them out.
Does anyone have any idea what’s going to be done with the remaining retail space in that area? I’m really glad we have a great market now, but next door is a vacant space and a lot that seems to be a parking lot for construction equipment. Just curious if anyone knows of any development planned for the area…
It is definitely better than the old market! The owners are really nice but it does attract a lot of kids who are up to no good and bother the owners. In my few times there I have seen kids repeatedly shoplift.
Great store owners and convenient store. Unfortunately the person that owns the whole building has no incentive to rent the vacant spaces (inherited the property and doesn’t live near by) and charges an offensive amount for rent (even for the store there now), so it remains vacant. Not sure if there’s anything we can do as a neighborhood to pressure the owner.
Constantly complain to DCRA and DPW about dumping could help
