The current controversy over Thomas Gore – categorized as “Mayor Gray`s defacto mayoral campaign treasurer“ by the press – that name kept ringing in the back of my head. Where do I recognize that name…?
Then I read this Loose Lips post from late Monday afternoon. I have copied in the first paragraph to help get you oriented, if you haven’t been keeping up with the Vincent Gray/Thomas Gore story.
Is Vince Gray F*cked? And Other Questions

LL was out interviewing Ward 5 Councilmember-elect Kenyan McDuffie today when news broke that Mayor Vince Gray’s de facto mayoral campaign treasurer, Thomas Gore, is almost certain to plead guilty in the near future to destroying evidence and using Gray’s campaign funds to make illegal payments to former minor mayoral candidate Sulaimon Brown. Lucky for you, dear reader, LL is now back in the office to break it down:
I then read the comments posted on this Loose Lips item – and spotted a comment related to the Bates area — specifically, the Langston & Slater Schools. The author of this comment is anonymous, so I cannot speak to its accuracy, but it is worth posting here at the BACA blog:

It’s a shame that DC has to go through all of this, but these two have been scratching each others’ backs for years.
In 2008, instead of letting a high performing school get a shot, Gray pushed through “emergency” legislation (PR17-0777) GIVING Gore’s non-profit, A.R.E., rights to the Langston/Slater school buildings 5 years after Gore’s charter was revoked by the charter board.
There’s a lot more to the Gray-Gore story. Don’t let us down, LL!
I know Gray and Gore have been friends for years but ARE has been in the Slater school for years and years, way before Gray was on the council. I have never used their services but I see parents bringing their children there every morning so people do find their services helpful. ARE recently got a new Executive Director, now we know why.
Thanks! I don’t want to initiate any ant-Gray sentiment here — or anti-A.R.E. sentiment. I suspect that there are Bates area residents who can share helpful background info here!
I’m glad that Thomas Gore stepped down from ARE, so that the much needed Day Care program and other services can continue for many parents and disabled youth.
