I believe that submission of a historic landmark application temporarily kills a DCRA demolition permit. So the razing of 57 N Street NW won’t be happening anytime soon.
See this message from Bruce Yarnall of the DC Historic Preservation Office:
The DC Historic Preservation Office recently received and filed for hearing three historic landmark nominations and one historic district boundary increase. They are:
37-57 N Street NW; 54-64, 66-76 Hanover Place NW – Chapman Stables/Garages – Case 13-09 – ANC 5E – nominated by DC Preservation League
1000 Irving Street NE – The Round House – Case 13-06 – ANC 5B
-nominated by Ditto Residential, owner, and DC Preservation League
District of Columbia War Memorial – Independence Avenue SW between 17th and 23rd streets – Case 13-07 – ANC 2A
– nominated by The National Park Service, National Mall and Memorial Parks, U.S. Department of the Interior
Downtown Historic District Boundary Increase (Parts of Squares 404, 405, 428,453, 454, 486) -Case 13-08 – ANC 2C
